Mary Goodney is a recent graduate of Miami University. During her time at Miami she has been a member of both the Miami University Chamber Singers, and the Choraliers, with whom she has traveled with to OMEA, and toured with in Italy. Mary has also developed her vocal skills through her participation in the summer voice program AIMS in Graz, Austria where she studied German Lieder and vocal technique. Mary studies voice with Dr. Alison Acord and Conducting under the direction of Dr. Reina Dickey.

Mary’s student teaching placements were at Fairfield Elementary School (general music), and Edgewood Middle School (choir). While at Fairfield she worked with Mike Holz, former President of the Cincinnati Orff chapter. She developed her elementary lesson planning skills under the Orff and Dalcroze methods, and got to help direct choir and Orff Ensemble rehearsals. At Edgewood Middle School, she worked with the 6th-8th grade choirs. Mary developed warm ups, collected student data to guide instruction, and conducted daily rehearsals with each ensemble, developing students musical skills in addition to teaching repertoire. She has experience working with a wide variety of ages from preschool age students to the collegiate level. In addition to having experiences in multiple musical genres from general music, choir, a cappella, and Orff instrumental ensembles.

Mary is a strong believer in individualized learning for students, and focuses her approach on teaching towards cultivating an appreciation for music on a personal level for every child. Teaching musical concepts through things each child is passionate about and providing them with an artistic outlet and education are things she values. Mary believes music and music education are important for a well rounded education and in building community, and is a strong advocate for the arts.
